About Notion Learning
Notion Learning is a new learning management system designed to be used by people
who use these systems every day. Both learners and administrators accessing the system deserve to use a system that's straight forward, simple and enjoyable to use.
This leads to the corner stones of the Notion Learning platform:
Simplicity and ease of use: Learners have one screen when they login which handles launching their new and existing course work. For administrators, there aren't pages of data and forms to navigate - for example, creating one thousand users and assigning them coursework is all handled from one simple screen.
No technical knowledge required!
Speed: Every aspect of the user experience is designed around two core concepts:
- It must be easy for
anyone to understand quickly.
- It must be extremely responsive for experienced users.
An entire e-learning course can be crafted online from source materials in
minutes.
Cloud: Like industry leaders in other industries (
Salesforce.com,
Basecamp) Notion Learning is an entirely cloud computing based service. This means that as well as being able to create a portal (or many!) instantly, the whole service is delivered straight to your browser. Everything is backed up, and the software is updated automatically and at no extra cost. It just works.
The founders
Dave Ganly has been building web sites for fourteen years. Before
setting up Notion Learning, he worked as an implementation consultant
for an e-learning company based in Ireland. In that role he travelled
extensively in the United States and Europe supporting the
implementation of e-learning systems in large corporations. Prior to
that he worked as a technical trainer.
Dimitris Mistriotis is a web technology expert. He has worked
extensively in his native Greece and the UK with advertising agencies,
computer game developers and other technology firms (including
start-ups) taking business processes from requirements through to full
blown developed systems. Prior to coming to London he also worked as a
lecturer in Athens, teaching various web technology, programming and
e-business courses.
History
Notion Learning came about as a result of David Ganly's past three years experience working in the e-learning industry.
In September 2008 he moved to London to do a Masters in
Computing, IT Law and Management at King's College London, where
he met Dimitris Mistriotis, who was studying
Computing and Internet Systems.
Together, they entered
the King's College London graduate business plan competition with the idea for Notion Learning. They
won the competition in March 2009, taking
five thousand pounds in winnings and using this to help support the start of the business.
In September 2009, they finished their Masters' and started working full time on Notion Learning. They are currently based in
The London Knowledge
Innovation Centre, with office space won under the Southwark tycoon bootcamp program.
